Love or loathe, Rob Zombie has always had a fairly distinct interpretation of horror. House of 1000 Corpses was the first movie that the industrial frontman wrote and directed, shopped around for years and eventually released, way back in 2003. You read that right; this movie is 14 years old today. I watched it the other night for probably the first time since it was released and I was still in high school, and while it could have used about 30-40% less white trash per capita, it isn’t a terrible watch. It’s definitely jarring and some of it could have been done much better (see: strange insert shots of nonsense for the sake of nonsense), but when it comes together it works very effectively (see: Captain Spaulding). There are a whole load of less entertaining movies I’ve put myself through that are much celebrated in our community, for what it’s worth.
Anyways, he also wrote a song about it, because he’s Rob Zombie and what else is he gonna do with his time? Buy kitty litter?
She got a corpse
Under her bed
He had her fun
But now he’s dead
Hear momma said
Come feed desire
Her brother said
Hey, throw him on the fire
This is the house
Come on in
This is the house
Built on sin
This is the house
Nobody lives
This is the house
You get what you give
I cut the flesh
And make it bleed
Fresh skin
Is what i need
I let it dry
Out in the wood
All your crying
Did no good, yeah
Now you’re lying
On the floor
Yeah, you can’t
Take anymore
The devil’s laughing
In your face
Give me another taste, yeah
