Trash/Thrash Tuesday: Altered Shade – “The Dark Gift Of Life”

Greetings and salutations little friends.

How’s it going this week?  I’m still slightly in recovery from Blasphemy destroying my brain and body this past Sunday night at the Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver, BC.

But I’m here on this kinda rainy and shitty Trash/Thrash Tuesday to rain some thrashy good times into your earholes and eyeholes with the new video from Altered Shade for “The Dark Gift of Life”.

This video is pretty good as far as production value goes – the creepy pregnant lady trucking through the woods was neat to look at, and of course the eponymous thrashy shots of the band swinging their heavy metal hair was also cool to look at.

For those who aren’t familiar, Altered Shade are “a metal band from the southwest of France, that play a powerful death/thrash metal with raw energy through punchy grooves adding a melodic and dark touch. The project was born during spring 2009 when Rudy (guitar) and Cedric (drums) met. Several musicians joined the band, and during January 2012 the final line up was completed by the arrival of Fab (bass), Romain (guitar) and Edwin (vocals). Their music is influenced by old school death, thrash and heavy metal, but also by dark, black, power and brutal. The lyrics are about esotericism and fanstasy, but always linked to human psychology. After a few concerts, the band recorded two demos, the last one during 2014. Altered Shade were discovered by the producer Johnathan Mazzeo, which brought the band to record their first album in Prato Italy at the Mathlab Recording Studio under the flag of Wormholedeath Records. This first album “The Path of Souls” has been recorded and mixed by Johnathan Mazzeo and mastered by Chris Donaldson at the Grid studio Montreal Canada.”

I think it’s super cool this record was mixed in Canada and I have to say I’m a big fan of French metal acts, there’s a distinct brutality that comes along with being from the romance country of France I suppose.

I’m not always the biggest fan of thrash but I was super into this song this week and this one is definitely going into the THRASH pile, rather appropriately.
