Trash/Thrash Tuesday: Jack Off Jill – “Strawberry Gashes”

Hello friends.  Every time I go away for a week and allow Scotty chance to reign over my kingdom, I come back and find the whole damn thing in a fucking shambles.  If he isn’t beaking off about necrophilia, he’s going on about some weird ass crazy shit that makes one want to either stop drinking and throw away the booze like a cartoon hobo who has seen too much, or alternatively to take ALL of the acid.  I can only assume that some of you decided to take all the acid.  I hope you are recovering.

For those still with me, this week I’m going to THRASH you guys with something a little close to home.  Did you grow up spoopy like me?  Were you the kid in all black with big boots reading Edgar Allan Poe in the school cafeteria?  Did you regularly jam out to spooky riot grrl kinderwhore shit while wearing striped tights and huge mary jane shoes?  If you were anything like me and my fellow spooky goth grrls, Jack Off Jill was the go to.  Jack off Jill perfectly combined the aesthetic of cute and fucking scary and packaged up the kind of rage unique to being a female.  Jessicka was my hero (still is).  I played my Clear Hearts Grey Flowers CD so many times I wore it out, and had to get another one.  I got in crap at school for wearing my curse word laden JOJ merch to class.  It was amazing!  Like all great things, Jack off Jill broke up, and Jessicka formed the dreamy dark pop group scarling., known for songs like “Band Aid Only Covers The Bullet Hole” and “crispin glover”.

Earlier this past week Jack Off Jill announced their plans to reunite for a show in Asheville, NC, and have started pledge music site to raise money/sell awesome JOJ merch.

I’m pretty fucking psyched even though I won’t unfortunately be attending the show.

BUT – I want all you spooky girls and mamas, and everyone else to go support these awesome ladies and come take a spoopy trip down memory lane with me and delve into the mind of a broken dolly.

STRAWBERRY GASHES

Turn her over
A candle is lit, I see through her
Blow it out and save all her ashes for me

Curse me sold her
The poison that runs it’s course through her
Pale white skin with strawberry gashes all over all over

Watch me fault her
You’re living like a disaster
She said kill me faster
with strawberry gashes all over

Called her over
and asked her if she was improving
She said “feels fine” it’s wonderful wonderful here

Hex me told her
I dreamt of a devil that knew her
Pale white skin with strawberry gashes all over all over

Watch me fault her
You’re living like a disaster
She said kill me faster
with strawberry gashes all over

I lay quiet
waiting for her voice to say
“Some things you lose and some things you just give away”

Scold me failed her
If only I’d held on tighter to her
Pale white skin that twisted and withered away from me away from me

Watch me lose her
It’s almost like losing myself
Give her my soul
and let them take somebody else get away from me

Watch me fault her
You’re living like a disaster
She said kill me faster
with strawberry gashes all over all over me

So that’s it kids!  Do you remember wearing black nailpolish and carrying a teddy bear backpack?  Did you wear thrift store dresses that were ill fitting but you thought you looked like a real sex machine?  Did you listen to this song while picking at your self injury scabs pondering deeply about the curses of womanhood?  If so, please drop me a line and let’s get talking.

There’s been few other musical groups that have had the impression on me that Jack Off Jill has.  I have a Jack Off Jill tattoo, if that says anything.

STAY SPOOKY!
