Without a doubt the most talked about and anticipated performance at this years Housecore Horror Film Festival was the reunion of Superjoint Ritual (who played under the moniker Superjoint due to legal reasons). For a band that hasn’t seen a stage together since 2004, you couldn’t have asked for a tighter, more energetic performance. Though this is likely due to Jimmy Bower and Phil Anselmo’s chemistry from working together for years in DOWN Kevin Bond stood beside them like he had never left, blasting the appreciative audience with riff after riff with Bower. Filling out the bass and drums were Illegals members Bennet Bartley and Joe Gonzalez. But before you call our Hank III for not picking the bass back up for this reunion, let me say that we were informed that though he wanted to attend, he was unable to due to issues within his family. Even with Hank III’s abscence, the crowd exploded as soon as Superjoint took the stage and didn’t let up until the bitter end despite the blistering 90° Texas heat. Seeing the audience scream along to every word, crowd surf and form the biggest, most viscous pit of the weekend was truly awe inspiring. It was a bittersweet performance for those lucky enough to be in attendance, knowing that this was a one time deal though.
